A fresh political claim has intensified the debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with APC campaign chief Abdulaziz Yari declaring that none of President Bola Tinubu’s challengers possesses even 10 percent of his qualities and competence.
Yari, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, made the statement on Wednesday during an engagement with members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The senator representing Zamfara West was in the state to seek support for Tinubu’s re-election, as the ruling party begins to strengthen its political structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 contest.
While addressing the transport workers, Yari said the comparison between Tinubu and the other presidential aspirants would heavily favour the incumbent, insisting that the President remained far ahead of his opponents in merit and quality.
He illustrated his position with a scale, saying that putting all the aspirants against Tinubu would create such a wide difference that, in his words, the scale might not even be able to accept them.
“That is how politics is. When you put all the aspirants contesting against Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a scale, I don’t think the scale would even accept them,” Yari said in Hausa.
The former Zamfara governor went further by arguing that the opposition contenders do not possess up to 10 percent of the qualities he believes Tinubu has, while stressing that the APC would continue working to secure the President’s victory.
Yari, however, acknowledged that other politicians have the right to contest the election and campaign for support, saying the APC would combine its political efforts with prayers as it seeks victory for Tinubu in 2027.
He also urged supporters to pray for Tinubu and Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal to win their respective elections, expressing hope that both leaders would be allowed to complete what he described as the good work they had started for the people.
The 2027 presidential race is expected to feature a number of prominent political figures, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress among those being mentioned as major contenders against Tinubu.
